NIRCA - National Insurance Repair Contractors Association

Message from the Chairman

Thank-you for taking you time to view the NIRCA website, as Chairman I would like to give to provide you with a statement of the intentions of NIRCA and some of the detail of its background.

NIRCA was formed by like minded contractors who identified the need for a trade organisation to represent those of us who work in the Insurance repair market to improve acceptable standards for health and safety, training, technical competence and financial stability.

From a standing start in early 2006 we have put together a membership and there is a lot of work to be done in the future. Despite the recession which caused us to pause our activities temporarily we are now back on track once again working towards our goals. The categories below indicate the framework of activities addressed by NIRCA.

LEGISLATION:

Much of the burdening legislation to which we all have to adhere is both time consuming and expensive for some of the smaller contractors and company directors can feel isolated sometimes from the rest of the industry. NIRCA aims to help members comply with the legislative requirements as this is a common theme for all of us. This will cover the CIS regulations for contractors and the FSA legislative powers which now dominate our industry.

HEALTH & SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL:

NIRCA aims to provide assistance to member companies and the industry at large to keep up to date with current events. Indeed it is our intention to be able to provide for members training courses in this respect during the coming months. By pooling our resources we can provide information to ALL for a single cost that normally each company might have to bear alone.

TRAINING:

We link with ConstructionSkills on the training available to members and encourage the use of NVQ’s where appropriate and the CSCS cards for operatives.  NIRCA has the intention of considering the issue of a NIRCA card to all trained operatives which will not only demonstrate the technical abilities (from the CSCS card route) but more importantly perhaps include the "soft" customer skills and training on the culture of working in the insurance market principally in the domestic environment. It is known , but not widely recognised that skilled operatives including multi task ones need additional support when working in some-ones home as opposed to an ordinary construction site.

WEBSITE:

The NIRCA website will become a library of all relevant information for members and the industry at large.
